this is a personally hand-typed request for your help
not an automated advertisement looking to generalize...

The Art Exchange: what do you need? what do you want to get rid of? Or are you just looking for some extra cash, some inspiration, or bargain gratification? You don't need to be an "artist" to enjoy this space, it is more on the level of an indoor flea market that has whatever you need and may also have a movie playing on a giant projector screen, or a buffet of tainted goodies.
We are trying to encourage people to re-evaluate their garbage. Most of us at the Art and Found warehouse are dumpster divers and see how much people waste every day. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of paying for things that I only use once, or paying a tax on something that is already overly priced.

WHAT IF... We didn't need money for anything but food and rent? What if all the things you want to buy along the way, you can get by trading something you are about to throw to the curb? Imagine if this idea took off, and eventually you could barter a deal with your landlord and get out of paying rent. Think of the people you would be connected with, the events you would hear about along the way, and the elimination of stress over being poor.

The Art and Found: Its a warehouse in West Oakland filled to its brim with pretty much everything/anything: clothes, furniture, instruments, tools, computers, bikes, car parts, costumes, ART SUPPLIES, craft supplies, collectibles, jewelry.... I mean everything. And its the place you can sell your stuff at, and its the place you can call if you are looking for something to buy at a cheaper rate, and its the place that is going to hopefully take back what we have invested in capitalism so we can start living off the waste of it instead.

I'm getting pretty excited

ok, you naughty scouts -- i made a few brown badge sashes last night -- a few of them are promised already, but i'll have some extras with me...

and i'll have a few extra badges to share, as well as a way to make our own on-playa -- i'm thinking thick felt and pens and puff paints should let us make up some unique little badges that we can earn -- the naughtier the better, of course!

see you all in center camp -- i'll be working behind the counter on weds at 1 (at least that's the plan) but i'll be wearing my brownie uniform, so come on up and say hi, and i can tell you where the naughty scouts are gathering (if it isn't obvious ;)^

i just wanted to mention one more time that i will be camping at the bouncy bouncy club...5 and mercury.....they will be serving drinks and there will be alot of bouncing AND dancing on the bar. i believe there will be a pole as well, so we can warm up for the night's festivities.

so, remember, when you're in need of a partner in crime, the bouncies will know where i am if i'm not in camp!

playa troop meeting

all righty then, you girl scouts... even though we are sort of lame in getting stuff done (like pulling off a meaningful sf troop meeting or making our badges ;^) -- but no matter because we ARE all heading up to the playa soon!

and we need to set a troop meeting plan! i've met two people on here who i wouldn't have known otherwise (burnin' steph and lori, both who i totally dig) and i bet there are lots more ass-kickin' badge-winnin' mischief-makin' scouts in our huuuuuge troop on here!

so! where and when should we meet? are the portland scouts all camping together? or is there someone who can offer a camp? we could set the meeting at the goddess gathering - but honestly, i think our troop meeting should be separate, since we'll no doubt want to be out and about in our little uniforms doing some mischief.

so how about thursday for the girl scout meeting? like 4 or 5pm? any other suggestions?

i'll be making up a few brownie sashes to bring up as gifts -- maybe we can all try to just bring a few extra badges and exchange them?

and someone needs to bring the brownie pledge and words for the ceremony, did someone post that a while back?

our third anniversary celebration and where we'll be

Just wanted to invite y'all to our third wedding anniversary party! I can't believe that it's been three years... wow! We will also be celebrating Khat Bleu and Tiger's first anniversary (Lisa and John).

Friday night after 9:30pm come by Blyss Abyss (www.blyssabyss.org), which used to be a large pink lotus and looks like this year will transform into a crashed out Saturn located at Mercury and 3:30

Otherwise, come and visit Andrew and I at the Artery camp right in the Center Camp circle. I'll be working from 9am to 2pm Mon-Wed and we're camped just behind the artist check in just a couple doors down from Arctica, so no excuse not to come find us! We'll also be dining with Blyss Abyss nightly, so that is a good place to find us as well.

We've got the artwork, we've agreed on colors (reference the "green sparkly" thread if you missed that part) - we just need someone to find a vendor who can get them done in the next month (if not sooner - I'd love to have mine BEFORE I leave, rather than trying to find y'all when we get there!) and collect orders and money from the rest of the girls.

So I got a two week job offer for exactly when I was supposed to go back to Toronto and visit family and friends... and nothing with airmiles is available at all for the month of August- I checked every frickin day.

So no uniform since it was at mom's and it would be a logistical nightmare to attempt to explain to my mother (and possibly traumatic)what boxes to go into to find the various parts of my costume.

ugh.

working on other costumes and am getting busy. I can't see myself coming up with a girl guides one now. But I will be at the goddess gathering for sure!

A friend gave me a bag of vintage patterns and there is one that is perfect for a uniform. It is a Size 8 pattern, but if you're the crafty vixen type, you can probably make it work for your size.

i live in canada and this will be my first burn, and i saw the post in a jrs awhile ago. i don't know anyone here (in canada) to start a special gsgb division with or anything, nor have i ever been a real girl scout (i took too many dance classes, my mom wouldn't let me do more activities) so i don't have a uniform (though i could try to make one!!)
i read all the other posts, and is there going to be an on-playa meeting, as it would be impossible to meet anywhere before, living so far away. i have no idea where to find places on the playa, though i'm sure my experienced campmates could point me in the general direction...

maybe we could start a special division for random girlscouts from far away places, i'm sure there's got to be more girlscouts out there that don't have anyone to form a troop with!!

SF Girls scouts gone . . . where?

I think the fact that we can't manage to have a meeting demonstrates how "bad" these girl scouts have gotten. If we wanted to go to meetings, we would still be scouts! Or not. Maybe it is more realistic to meet somewhere we are more likely to be anyway, like . . . where the heck do you people hang out? I am usually in the city, but I am not afraid of the East Bay. Nighttime is better for me, because I want to give the impression that I have a day job.

On the other hand, we can make some decisons about what it really means to be a "girl scout gone bad" right here, right now. Do we want to meet on the playa and do some "cookie selling," er, forced bartering? Do we have badges to distribute, share, collect? Do we all wear our "uniforms" to a troop meeting in center camp and start a project we can't finish, burst into tears and storm off?

Do we want to have a special presence at the Burning Woman gathering on Wed at 2pm? (That was Leslie's idea) or something else?

Let's get some ideas out here, ladies. I've got badges and I'm not afraid to use them.

July 11th San Fran troop meeting

Okay so this is it!

Come and join us on Hippie Hill. I will be there starting at noon, but the meeting will start at 1. I will be on the hill to the right of the drummers on Hippie Hill in Golden Gate park. This area is at the east end right near Stanyan just up in the park from the end of Haight Street. It's also close to the merry-go-round and the kids equipment.

I will be wearing shiny blue horns.

I have black hair and will be wearing fuschia clothes.

kari suggests sunday may 1st, which is mayday, and also the how-weird street fair -- we could actually meet up there, which has the added benefit of music and a carnival atmosphere (two of my favorite things)

who's in for a may 1st meet-up? we can talk about what kind of patches to make from the sf troop (which i hope we can agree is 669, since i already got the numbers for my sash ;^)

I posted it in all my other tribes too...I have an idea? All of you should post it in a few of your tribes also.Help to spread the word...call your local cinema and make a request for it to be shown. I heard they are going to try and block it from being shown nationwide. It is not sceduled for release until the June 25th...this is our own kind of magical way to show our patriotism...”Viva la revolutione!!!”

The organization Moveon.org is trying to get groups out to view the film opening day (June 25th) or at least by opening weekend.

For those who have not heard-several Republican funded groups have started contacting theaters set to show the film trying to convince theater managers to not show it. Showing support of these theaters and this film would be a great boost to get the films message to the masses.
Even if you do not agree with what the film says, I'm sure you also do not agree with a politial party trying to dictate what films are available for you to choose to see or not either.

Given how devastating Michael Moore's new film Fahrenheit 9/11 is to President Bush's carefully crafted facade, it's hardly surprising that right-wing groups who call Moore a "domestic enemy" are using censorship and intimidation tactics to try to get it pulled from theaters. That's why we've got to do everything we can to make the opening a huge success. We're asking people to pledge to see the film on the opening night -- Friday, June 25th. (If you can only make it on Saturday or Sunday, that's OK too.)

There is also a link to register to say you will come out and support the film opening weekend. I'm not going to post the link here, since it seems to 'cookie' the info of the last person who typed anything in. Also it may open up your mail box to political mail correspondance.

PDX-results of 1st official meeting

These are the items that were decided upon at our first official meeting:

Portland Troop #143
Scoutmaster - Marissa
Secretary - Julie--CG!
Petty Officer - Warpup

The official uniform will be the green sash with the badges earned on it. What you wear or not wear underneath the sash will be personal choice, you will not be required to wear the dress. Hats are a plus, but also not required attire.

We have some very nice ideas for badges and Petty Officer Warpup will create some designs for these badges (If you would like to contribute a design of your own, please bring to the next meeting for presentation). After researching costs we will put these designs up for vote on this tribe.

Once A GSGB has earned her/his badge (anytime between Burning Man 2003 and Burning Man 2004), they will be given a supply of those badges to distribute to people at Burning Man 2004 that are displaying the correct type of behavior to earn said badge.

Just found this tribe, after finding the idea on Burning Woman tribe, and immediately jumping up and down for joy (quietly, while at the office).

So I dig the Brownies idea, more than the girl scout-- I guess it's pretty much up to thrift stores & sewing places to get together a decent outfit, eh? Since I believe the original brownie-girl-scout things are tiny kids (and I am definitely not a tiny kid)....

**for some reason for the last two weeks I cannot make listings, so I've posted this in discussion**

I wanted to share this with all you women who are looking for some fun exercise. I have now taken three of the four Burlesquercisevclasses in this session and it is a total blast! By the end of the class we are all sweating and laughing and being playfully sexy. So not only do you get exercise, but you get to wear fishnets and play. As an added bonus last week we got a practice CD and this week a make your own pasties kit.

i was thinking, for a gsgb logo, we should do a round patch with the girl scout's clover in the middle and the man (maybe dancing) in the middle of the clover. around the edges we could have girl scouts gone bad (on top) and 2004 on the bottom.

what do you think?

(we'll need someone to draw it)

and we could all chip in on a bunch.

hey you bad scouts,

we had our mtg last night. it was a small first turn out but alot of fun.

we talked about a girl scouts gone bad patch. on the way home i thought our symbol could be a brownie clover with the man inside and "girl scouts gone bad" and the year written around the perimetere.

also demerit badges. we think that each region should get a few badges, whether they be regular girl scout badges or made up ones. just keep us in the loop. i think i'm going to start a yahoo group.

anyway, if we each get a few different badges, we can share when we get to the burn, right.

i would like to hold a troop meeting, maybe at the blue bongo. maybe this week or next. i'm gonna talk to some folks.

So, if you're in chicago, or any city that caters to slutty eight year olds... I've noticed that khaki, mini-dresses that are very sexy-uniform-like are in style right now -- if you can fit into a girl's 14/16. I got one for $12. Add a green sash and it's ready to go.

I'll just repost what I posted on Burning Women...

I'm totally into this too. I've got a Canadian Girl Guide uniform as no brownie ones would fit me. I've still got my old sash and All Round Cord that I really would love to tie silly boys up with.

Has anyone contacted the Black Rock Boy Scouts yet? They have badges done up and offer them for things like
Lap Dancing
Being a Bitchy Neighbour
Imitating Larry Harvey

They also have a Mamboree instead of a Jamboree on Friday night and instead of "Be Prepared" their motto is "Be Impaired". They also had a great mock National Forest sign in brown that had their logo on it and a high fire warning.

I think that they may camp with Gigsville.

Other then that, I'm in SF and a BM regional representative- I was the Toronto local one, now I'm the Thailand rep (even though I'm not there right now but was for the last 10 months). Shall I put out a Girl Scout call to BM and hopefully get it in the JRS?
